Grandview Speedway

This was an invitation only, 25 lap feature only event. 5 classes were on the schedule. Legends, 600cc Micro Sprints, 600cc Modifieds, URC Sprints and 358 Modifieds.

I started 9th. Jumped into 7th going down the front stretch on the start. The car was awesome on restarts. I slowly picked off cars one at a time. On lap 15 I found myself in 2nd. Didn’t think I would have anything for the leader, but with laps counting down I saw that he started to push through the middle of the corners. On lap 21 I got by him on the inside of turn 2, but went into turn 3 a little too hard and he got back around me. As we went into turn 3 on lap 22 I rolled in on the high side. In the center of the corner I cut down and took advantage of the banking to get a great run on the leader, passing him coming off turn 4 and putting a sizable gap between us. I went on to lead the last 2 laps and take the victory!

It is awesome to get into the Grandview history books as a feature winner, but even more so awesome to have done it at a Thunder on the Hill show!

We are back at Grandview this coming Saturday. I am looking forward to it!

Car count: 31

Heat: Started 5th, 5 to qualify. Advanced to 3rd on the start only to have the yellow come out before the lap was completed. On the restart I spun the tires and the car behind me gave me a shove up out of the groove. I fell back to 9th. Worked my way back to 5th, but ran out of laps before I was able to run down 4th place.

Feature: The track was absolutely horrible. Big holes and ruts through the turns. Big enough to give the big modifieds trouble getting through the corners. I started 13th and picked my way to a 9th place finish, but the track just didn’t allow good racing.

Car count: 32

Heat: Started 5th, 5 to qualify. I was trapped in 5th on the bottom for a couple laps. Once I was able to get to the outside I moved into 3rd. We had only 6 lap heats, so was not able to real in the leaders.

Feature: While we were lining up on the grid the sky let loose and the rest of the night was rained out. I am scheduled to start on the outside pole.

Comments: We will make up the feature event on October 25th, plus run another complete show that night.

Car count: 24

Heat: At the start of the heat my chain came off.

Feature: We scrambled to get the chain back together and didn’t have time to make set-up changes to the car. I should have started 24th, but for some reason several drivers seemed to want to start in the rear. I ended up starting 19th. The car wasn’t anywhere near how we needed it to be. I was able to work my way to 13th at one point, but settled for 15th at the end.

Car count: 26

Heat: Started 7th, everyone to qualify. The track was very wide, but dry and dusty. I took 5th on the first lap. I could get under the 3rd and 4th place cars as we were in a tight race, but I just couldn’t find the grip to get by them. Finished in 5th.

Feature: Started 12th. I was working on 6th spot on lap 3 when I spun out in turn 1 all by myself. I had to restart in 20th something spot. I worked my way to 12th with 5-6 laps to go. On a caution lap the shifter arm fell off the motor and I was stuck in 2nd gear. The car came off the corners like a bear, but ran out of gear halfway down the straightaways. I was still able to race my way to an 8th place finish.
